Nova Bomb is the super ability for the Voidwalker. Player fires the Nova Bomb at the direction of your aim. It causes a massive explosion on contact. The explosion deals damage to all enemies in a 9 meter radius. The further away they are from the epicenter the less damage they take.

Nove Bomb travels similar to the projectile of a Rocket Launcher albeit moves slower and travels in a downward trajectory. During the casting animation, players can still change their aim. Players also gain significant damage resistance during their casting animation. The projectile will explode upon contact with any player, enemy or surface.

Tips and Tricks

  • Nova Bomb travels in a trajectory that is similar to a grenade, albeit the Bomb feels "heavier".
  • It is useful for clearing out a large group of weak enemies.
  • Players can upgrade Nova Bomb into with Shatter and Vortex to do additional AoE damage or control specific locations. For example, players can use the upgraded Nova Bomb to seal off certain coridors in PvP.
  • Players can reduce the cooldown of the ability by stacking Intellect.

Guide to Long Range Nova Bombs

Nova bomb travels farther the higher you aim, no matter how large the angle is. There are a couple of ways I know of to measure vertical angles in Destiny. The first one is the numerical intervals on the edges of the ShortGaze SLH15 and EagleEye SLR20 scopes. At tick 9, you're at 0 degrees from the horizon. In between tick 1 and 2, you're at 90 degrees. Here's an example of me aiming at "tick 3". I hear that the markings on a Longview SLR20 can also be used, but apparently the intervals are different from the one's found on Eagleeye and Shortgaze and I don't have a sniper with that scope to test it out.

The second method is using MIDA Multi-Tool. Each tick on the MIDA's sextant also corresponds to 12 degrees, similar to the scopes. Using this and patrol beacons, I came up with the approximate ranges of Vortex Nova Bomb at different angles. All shots are fired from a stationary position without jumping or moving the reticle while casting.

MIDA Tick Scope Tick Angle Distance Time Taken
1st 9 0 degrees Right in front of you <1s
2nd 8 12 degrees 22m 1s
3rd 7 24 degrees 33m 2s
4th 6 36 degrees 52m 3s
5th 5 48 degrees 65m 5s
6th 4 60 degrees 75m 7s
7th 3 72 degrees 84m 8s
8th 2 84 degrees 95m 9s
Between 8th & 9th Between 1 & 2 90 degrees 100m 10s

Readings aren't super exact, but they should be off by a relatively small amount considering Nova Bomb's large area of effect. Note that elevation also affects where Nova Bomb hits, but the effect is reduced at higher angles due to the steep arc.
