Court of Oryx is a type of Public Event released in The Taken King. Unlike other Public Events, Court of Oryx allows the players to pick their own difficulties and summon their own bosses.

Players can determine the difficulty tier of the battle by sacrificing runes of different quality/rarity. Players can obtain runes around the world of Destiny or purchase them from a "merchant". The player that sacrificed the rune will receive better rewards than other players just participating. That player cannot sacrifice another rune for 40 seconds after the completion of the event.
