Year 1
In Year 1, players can spend glimmer and purchase Engrams for him to decipher. As you use the Cryptarch to decipher Engrams, players receive Crypto-Archaeology Reputation points and allow you to rank up with the faction. Achieving higher rank with the Cryptarch allows the player to purchase rarer Engrams.
Engrams of different rarity grants different amounts of Reputation points:

- Do not buy engrams from him too quickly or you will not get all of reputation points (could be a bug).
- Players can also trade Artifacts such as House Banner, found during various missions, for glimmer.
